Overview

Kiosk Mode for Ingage Desktop locks your presentation into a full-screen, tamper-resistant display. It is designed for trade shows, showrooms, home shows, and any scenario where you want to present an Ingage presentation on a TV or monitor without the risk of someone exiting the app or accessing other applications on the computer. Kiosk Mode is available on both macOS and Windows and can be enabled by any Ingage user.

Requirements

  • Ingage Desktop app (latest version) installed on a Mac or Windows PC

  • A TV or monitor connected to your computer (a capacitive touchscreen display is recommended for interactive use)

  • A small computer such as a Mac Mini or Windows PC connected to the display

  • Open the Ingage Desktop app.

  • On macOS, click the Ingage Desktop menu in the menu bar, then select Settings. On Windows, click the hamburger menu () in the top-left corner, then select Settings.

Setting

Description

Lock Password

Set a password required to exit Kiosk Mode. Leave blank for no password protection.

Auto Launch

Enter an Ingage deep link (ingage://...) to automatically open a specific presentation when Kiosk Mode starts.

Show Navigation Bar

Toggle the navigation bar at the bottom of the presentation. Often hidden in Auto Advance mode.

Show Exit Button

Toggle the exit button visibility. Hidden by default in Kiosk Mode.

Timer Mode

Off: No automatic timer behavior. Restart Presentation: Returns to the first page after the specified inactivity period. Go to Next Page: Automatically advances to the next page at the specified interval (loops back to the beginning after the last page).

Timer Interval

The number of seconds between automatic actions (page advance or inactivity reset). Only applies when Timer Mode is On.

Presentation Modes

Interactive Mode (Timer Mode: Off or Restart Presentation)

In Interactive Mode, visitors can tap buttons, use interactive components (like Compares, Carousels and Scrollmotions), and navigate through your presentation on a touchscreen display. If you set the Timer Mode to Restart Presentation, the presentation will automatically return to the first page after a period of inactivity that you define. This ensures the display is always ready for the next visitor.

Auto Advance Mode (Timer Mode: Go to Next Page)

In Auto Advance Mode, the presentation automatically advances from page to page at the interval you set. When it reaches the last page, it loops back to the beginning. This mode functions like digital signage and only cycles through the main pages of your presentation—it does not automatically interact with buttons or interactive components on each page. Content designed for Auto Advance should be visually self-explanatory without requiring user interaction.

How to Exit Kiosk Mode

To exit Kiosk Mode while a presentation is running:

  • On macOS: Press Command + Q to trigger the quit dialog.

  • On Windows: Press Alt + F4 to trigger the quit dialog.

  • Enter your lock password (if one was set) and click Exit.

Forgot Your Kiosk Password?

If you have forgotten your Kiosk Mode password, you will need to force-quit the Ingage Desktop app:

  • On macOS: Press Command + Option + Escape to open the Force Quit dialog, select Ingage Desktop, and click Force Quit.

  • On Windows: Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete to open Task Manager, select Ingage Desktop, and click End Task.

After force-quitting, reopen Ingage Desktop. The app will return to its normal state, and you can access Settings to reset or change your Kiosk Mode password before re-enabling it.

Tips for a Great Kiosk Experience

  • Match your aspect ratio to your display. Most TVs are 16:9 (landscape). Portrait kiosk displays are typically 9:16 (vertical/portrait). Design your presentation in the correct aspect ratio before deploying it to your booth.

  • Use Auto Launch. Set your presentation’s deep link in the Auto Launch field so your booth is ready the moment the computer powers on.

  • Set a password and write it down. This ensures only your team can exit Kiosk Mode. Store the password somewhere accessible in case you need to make changes during an event.

  • Use a capacitive touchscreen display. For the best interactive experience, pair your computer with a TV that has a capacitive touchscreen overlay. This turns your display into a large, interactive surface similar to an iPad.

  • Mac Minis are ideal. Many of our customers use Mac Minis as the computer connected to their kiosk display. They are compact, reliable, and easy to hide behind a TV or inside a booth.

  • Design content for your mode. If using Auto Advance, make sure each page is visually clear without requiring interaction. If using Interactive Mode, leverage buttons, compare components, and other interactive elements.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Who can enable Kiosk Mode?

A: Any Ingage user can enable Kiosk Mode on Ingage Desktop. There are no role restrictions.

Q: Does Auto Advance interact with buttons or interactive elements on each page?

A: No. Auto Advance only cycles through the main pages of your presentation. It does not click buttons or activate interactive components.

Q: Can I use Kiosk Mode without a touchscreen?

A: Yes. You can use a wireless keyboard, mouse, trackpad, or presentation clicker to navigate. However, a touchscreen provides the most natural experience for visitors interacting with your presentation.

Q: Does Ingage also support Kiosk Mode on iPad?

A: Yes. Ingage has supported Kiosk Mode on iPad for some time. The Desktop version brings similar functionality to Mac and Windows computers, with the added benefit of Auto Advance and larger display support.

Q: What happens if the computer restarts while in Kiosk Mode?

A: If you have set an Auto Launch presentation, Ingage Desktop will reopen and launch directly into that presentation when the app starts. We recommend configuring your computer to auto-start Ingage Desktop on boot for a seamless experience.
