Overview
The Ingage desktop app now includes a set of beta design tools in the page editor: component grouping, a Layers panel, copy and paste style, canvas zooming, rulers and guides, math in numeric inputs, and drag-to-resize pop-ups. These tools give you the layout controls you expect from a standard design application, so you can build and adjust presentations faster and with more precision. All of them are off by default; you turn them on in Preferences.
Why Use these Beta Design Tools?
Keep related items together
Before, you could select several items and move them, but the selection was lost as soon as you clicked away. Now you can group items so they stay together. For example, group a button's icon, label and background once, then move or resize the whole button as a unit every time.
Apply a look in seconds
Copy and paste style lets you design one component and apply its formatting to others. For example, style one icon with a red background, white icon color, border and drop shadow, then paste that style onto every other icon on the page instead of setting each one by hand.
Lay out pages with precision
Rulers, custom guides and canvas zooming let you see exact pixel positions and line items up to margins you define. For example, set equal margins around a page with Duplicate and Mirror, then zoom in to check alignment on small details.
How to Turn On the Beta Features
The design tools ship in the desktop app update releasing the week of October 5, 2026. Each user turns them on in their own copy of the app.
Install the latest Ingage desktop update when the auto-update notice appears.
Open the Ingage desktop menu and select Preferences.
Find the Beta Features section. All beta features are off by default.
Turn on the features you want to use: Page Editor Component Grouping, Zooming, and Rulers and Guides.
Close Preferences and open a presentation in the page editor.
How to use Group Components
Select two or more items on the page.
Press Command-G, or right-click and choose Group from the context menu.
Click away to deselect. The group stays intact.
Click any item in the group to select the whole group, then move or resize it. Resizing applies proportionally to every item in the group.
How to Edit Items Inside a Group with the Layers Panel
Open the Layers panel. Every component on the page is listed there.
Hover over a layer to see a preview of that component.
Expand a group to see the items inside it.
Select an individual item in the group and make your changes.
To rename a group, double-click its name in the Layers panel and type a new one (for example, "Buttons").
How to Copy and Paste Style
Select a component that has the style you want, such as a background color, border, drop shadow and icon color.
Right-click and choose Copy Style, or press Command-Shift-C.
Select one or more components you want to restyle.
Right-click and choose Paste Style, or press Command-Shift-V.
You can paste a style onto a different type of component. Ingage matches up the properties both components share, such as corner radius, border, drop shadow, foreground color and background color.
How to Zoom the Canvas
Press and hold the Z key.
While holding Z, choose how to zoom:
Click and drag around an area to zoom in on that area.
To jump to a set view, open the View menu and choose one of the following:
Zoom to 100%
Zoom to Fit
Zoom to Selection
How to Use Rulers and Guides
Show rulers
Open the View menu and choose Show Rulers, or press Shift-R.
Rulers appear along the top and left of the canvas. Position 0,0 is the top-left corner of the canvas.
Select an item. The rulers highlight the space it takes up and show the pixel position of its edges, updating as you move it.
Add and adjust guides
Click a ruler and drag a guide onto the canvas.
Release the guide where you want it. The ruler shows its exact pixel position as you drag.
Move items on the page. They snap to your guides.
To create a matching guide on the opposite side of the page, right-click the guide and choose Duplicate and Mirror.
To fine-tune a guide, click it to select it (it changes color), then nudge it with the arrow keys.
If you move a guide by accident, press Command-Z to undo.
Smart Guides vs. custom guides
With Smart Guides turned on, items also snap to nearby objects. Turn Smart Guides off in the View menu if you want items to snap only to your custom guides.
Guides in pop-ups and other components
When you open a pop-up or deep-edit a compare, carousel or flip card, the rulers reset so 0,0 is that component's top-left corner. Guides are saved separately for each component. Your page guides are hidden while you edit the component and return when you close it.
How to Do Math in Numeric Inputs
Click into any numeric input in the inspector, such as width, height or rotation.
Type a calculation after the current value. For example:
Type *.33 to make an item about one-third its size.
Type +50 to add 50 pixels.
Press Return to apply the result.
To scrub a value instead, hold the Option key with your mouse over a numeric input, then drag left or right.
How to Resize a Pop-Up
Open a pop-up for editing.
Click an empty area so nothing inside the pop-up is selected. Handles appear on the pop-up's corners and sides.
Drag a corner or side handle to resize the pop-up.
The Viewer and iPad Experience
Presentations you build with groups and guides display normally on every Ingage client. Your reps and their customers see no difference in how the presentation looks or behaves.
Editing on the iPad is the one exception. If you open a presentation in the Ingage iPad app and edit it, the iPad app removes its guides and groups. When you return to the desktop app, every component and visual element is still there, but you need to recreate any guides and groups you want.
Key Details
These tools are available in the Ingage desktop app only.
All design tools are beta features and are off by default. Turn them on in Preferences > Beta Features.
Editing a presentation on the iPad removes its guides and groups. No components or visual elements are lost.
Guides are saved per context: the page has its own guides, and each pop-up, compare, carousel and flip card has its own.
The beta period is expected to last about two weeks from release.

FAQ
I updated the app but I don't see grouping, rulers or zoom. Where are they? The design tools are off by default. Open the Ingage desktop menu, select Preferences, and turn them on in the Beta Features section.
Will presentations with groups and guides look different to my customers? No. Presentations built with these tools display normally on all Ingage clients.
What happens if I edit a grouped presentation on the iPad? The iPad app removes the groups and guides. All of your components stay in place. Recreate any groups or guides you need when you return to the desktop app.
How do I change one item inside a group? Open the Layers panel, expand the group, and select the item you want to change.
Can I paste a style onto a different kind of component? Yes. Ingage matches up the properties the two components share, such as background color, foreground color, border, drop shadow and corner radius.
Why don't my items snap to nearby objects? Smart Guides may be turned off. With Smart Guides off, items snap only to your custom guides. Turn Smart Guides back on in the View menu.
Where did my page guides go when I opened a pop-up? Guides are saved per context. While you edit a pop-up, compare, carousel or flip card, you see that component's guides. Your page guides return when you close it.
I moved a guide by mistake. Can I get it back? Yes. Press Command-Z. Guide changes are part of undo.
How long will these features be in beta, and where do I send feedback? The beta is expected to run about two weeks. Send feedback to Alex or email jim@ingage.io.
